Energy Commission Staff Reject Claims of Agitation, Back Institutional Stability

The leadership of the Energy Commission Division of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has strongly dismissed media reports alleging that staff are demanding the termination of the appointment of the Acting Executive Secretary, Ing. Eunice Biritwum.

In a statement signed by the Divisional Chairman, Hubert Nsoh Zan, the union leadership described the claims as false, baseless and misleading, stressing that they do not reflect the position or sentiments of workers at the Energy Commission.

As the legally recognised representative body for staff, the PSWU leadership stated categorically and unequivocally that there is no agitation within the Commission and no calls for the removal of the Acting Executive Secretary.

“There Is Calm at Work”

Addressing suggestions of unrest, the Divisional leadership clarified that the working environment across the Commission remains stable and professional.

“Contrary to the reports of ‘agitation’ and calls for her removal, the work environment at the Energy Commission remains calm, professional, and productive. There are currently no internal protests, industrial actions, or disturbances occurring within any of our offices,” the statement said.

The leadership expressed deep concern about what it described as the misrepresentation of staff positions by external actors or anonymous sources, warning against attempts to use workers’ names to advance undisclosed agendas.

“We find it deeply regrettable that external actors or anonymous sources would seek to use the name of ‘the staff’ to pursue an agenda that is entirely unknown to us,” the statement noted.

Union Rejects Unauthorised Claims

The PSWU leadership further emphasised that it remains the only authorised body to articulate grievances or collective positions on behalf of Energy Commission staff.

“We wish to state clearly that the Divisional (PSWU) leadership remains the sole authorised body to communicate the grievances of the workforce, and we have issued no such statement,” it said.

This clarification, the union stressed, is necessary to protect the integrity of the staff and prevent unnecessary tension within a critical state institution.

Focus Remains on Mandate, Not Distractions

Beyond rebutting the reports, the PSWU leadership reaffirmed staff commitment to the Energy Commission’s core mandate—the regulation and management of Ghana’s energy resources.

According to the statement, workers remain focused on delivering their responsibilities in support of national energy planning, regulation and sustainability, rather than engaging in internal disputes.

“We urge the public and the media to disregard these sensationalised reports, which appear designed to create unnecessary tension where none exists,” the leadership said.

The union concluded by calling on media organisations to exercise responsible journalism, particularly when reporting on labour relations and public institutions.

“We advise all media outlets to verify information with the authorised Divisional (PSWU) leadership before publishing claims that involve the collective reputation of our staff,” the statement added.

Guarding Institutional Confidence

At a time when Ghana’s energy sector requires stability, professionalism and public confidence, the PSWU’s intervention serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate reporting and institutional restraint.

By firmly rejecting claims of unrest and reaffirming commitment to stability, the Energy Commission staff leadership has drawn a clear line between legitimate labour representation and speculative narratives that risk undermining confidence in public institutions.
